CD A CD (Certificate of Deposit) is a savings certificate that entitles the bearer to receive interest on the deposit. Unlike many other investments, CDs can be issued in any denomination. Each CD has a specified interest rate and a maturity date. This type of investment is usually issued by a commercial bank. A "jumbo" CD is a CD of over $100000 (a CD under $100000 is called a "small" CD). A "Yankee" CD is a CD issued in the US market by a branch of a foreign bank.
